Synopsis

Sustainable Construction - Waste Materials as Aggregates Replacement is an edited volume comprising of ten chapters. Each of the chapters discusses different types of industrial, agricultural and natural wastes which have demonstrated promises for future use in construction industries. Recycling these waste materials that are found in abundance can avoid deleterious environmental hazards and their incorporation in constructions has actually produced products towards sustainable industry. The results presented in studies discussed in this volume are not only beneficial economically and environmentally, but also provide the industry with technical information on valuable resources that could have key roles in meeting the challenges of sustainable construction in today’s world. The high demand of natural resources due to rapid urbanization and the disposal problem of industrial and agricultural wastes have created opportunities for utilizing these wastes such as demolished building waste, laterite aggregates, garnet, water treatment plant waste, plastic aggregates, palm oil clinker) as aggregates replacement in concrete. Research has shown that waste materials incorporated in concrete could enable the construction industry to become more sustainable and economical, and they provide solutions to other related ecological, sociological and economic problems.
