Synopsis

There are no set rules or 'cast in stone' must use principles to define the essence of islamic architecture or the establishment of a definite nomenclature. Many architects, designers and even laymen had in the past tried their best to establish their design principles on how an islamic building or its architecture should be. Many have also established their version based on various personal perceptions and interpretations which are not necessarily correct or well interpreted. The definition of islamic architecture has been more of a cliche. Recently, as a result of this absence, the 'Seven Principles of Islamic Architecture' as written by Nisreen Moustafa, has become an accepted form that is now used occasionally to define a set of Islamic architectural principles. It serves as a well thought-out view that is said to present wellresearched principles and can be used conceptually or as a symbolic approach that one can easily use to define islamic architecture. It is also an attempt to define and elaborate Islamic architecture.
