Synopsis
This book is suitable as a primer for the field of optometry especially related to pharmacological knowledge. The contents of this book are arranged starting by giving basic pharmacological explanations such as the definition of receptors, agonists, antagonists as well as general pharmacological principles especially on pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. The first chapter describes pharmacokinetics in general and then focuses more on the pharmacokinetics of optometry. The next chapters are about the autonomic nervous system and the useful drugs in the field of optometry that act on this nervous system. In addition, other drugs such as antibiotics, dyes for diagnostic use, antihistamines, local anesthetics, prostaglandin analogs and other substances such as artificial tears used in the field of optometry are also described. To facilitate understanding, the order of discussion of each chapter that touches on drugs begins with the way the action and use of the drug is followed by adverse effects and conditions that make the drug contraindicated. Finally, the list of medicines approved by the Ministry of Health Malaysia for optometric use is listed.
