In 2015, at the age of 61, Janet McDowell was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia, a type of leukemia that is very common and curable in young children, but not so much in older adults. From the beginning of her treatment, things immediately started going wrong, leading to two separate situations that were nearly fatal. Her unrelenting complications would have led many to give up, but Janet fought back with tenacity matching the seriousness of her illness. Despite the lack of research and statistics on lymphocytic leukemia in adults, Janet never let that slow her down on her road to recovery.
