Synopsis

This work discusses the meaning of integrity from both semantic and conceptual perspectives. The term originates from the Latin word integer, meaning complete and whole. In a moral context, integrity refers to honesty, uprightness, and strong moral principles. Corruption arises from human greed (avarice) for quick and temporary gain, leading to the abandonment of moral values and the true purpose of life. In Islam, greed for worldly possessions is regarded as the root of all evil. Therefore, ethical education must be instilled from an early age, grounded in universal moral values, and strengthened by the concept of murāqabah—the constant awareness that Allah is ever watchful—embodied in the spiritual principle of iḥsān, which signifies excellence in faith and conduct.
